The legendary Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) was a soldier, artist, and master swordsman (or kensei). He fought his first battle at age 13. Three years later, he became a RONIN—a masterless samurai—during the Battle of Sekigahara.
He is known for his exceptional skill in swordplay, having won over 60 duels throughout his life. He developed a unique two-sword fighting style called Niten Ichi-ryu based on ceremonial drum playing at the temple.
